One thing that goes through my mind as I go unit by unit through the new book with few exceptions is "My goodness, that's awful..." But suppose it isn't. If you don't wipe out most of that squad of Crushers before Turn 2, you're in deep kimchee. And behind those Crushers, I might have Nurgle Grinders with AV13 and a 3+ cover save pressing upfield. And maybe in front of the Crushers are some Hellflayers that will look like Seeker Chariots in my army because nobody gives a toss which model you built with the kit. (Did Hellflayers change, Punchdub? Squadrons, points, rules??? Or did you do that whole QA session off the stuff we already knew for the benefit of the Google-inept?)
Questions on my mind, in no particular order:
How on earth am I supposed to beat the Bannerwing and its 140 S4 twin-linked shots with this?
How am I supposed to beat Grey Knights and its mass psycannons and psybolt ammo with this? (PE too!)
How am I supposed to beat Necron Wraiths, Necron flyers and Necron dakka with this?
How am I supposed to beat mech IG with this? I wonder if they ever playtested the army against twin-linked Manticores. I'm sure they did.
How am I supposed to make a list that can beat any and all of those with this?
I'm working on answers, but I don't have them yet. I will find them, and that is why I'm not upset despite my disappointment. It's probably not as bad as I think, but I have to playtest first, and I'm stuck in Africa for two weeks, so don't expect unit reviews any time soon. That means that for now I will be the least experienced Daemon player on the planet running the only blog dedicated to playing them competitively! Stay tuned!
In the meantime, I recommend you go read Man Boy Genius's review that will explain to you how everything in the book is totally awesome. More fun than reading Black Blow Fly tell you how to put Kharn and some Berserkers in a Land Raider!
